Thief known as Spider-Man for scaling buildings to commit thefts is arrested in SP

A thief nicknamed 'Spider-Man' was arrested in São Paulo for breaking into apartments by climbing buildings.

A 48-year-old man, known as 'Spider-Man' for his method of scaling buildings to commit thefts, was apprehended in the Sé region of downtown São Paulo. The arrest occurred on Wednesday, and the man was charged with qualified theft. His latest crime involved breaking into an apartment on the second floor of a building in the Itaim Bibi neighborhood, highlighting the audacious nature of his thefts.

The investigation began after a police report was filed and was led by the 3rd Specialized Central for Crime Suppression. Detective Felipe Nakamura, overseeing the case, noted that security camera footage played a crucial role in quickly identifying the suspect. The footage revealed the suspect's characteristic method of operation, allowing law enforcement to confirm his identity as he had a history of similar crimes.

Nakamura emphasized that the suspect has multiple prior arrests for robbery and theft, consistently employing the same technique of scaling properties to reach apartments. This pattern of behavior raises concerns about public safety and the methods used by repeat offenders, leading to calls for increased surveillance and community policing measures to prevent such crimes in the future.
