Dressed as Ghostbusters, police arrest suspects of cell phone theft at a block party in SP
Police in São Paulo arrested two suspects for cell phone theft at a carnival block party after infiltrating the crowd dressed as Ghostbusters.
On Sunday, February 8, during a carnival block event in the Consolação neighborhood of São Paulo, local police arrested a man and a woman suspected of stealing cell phones from partygoers. Officers from the Homicide and Person Protection Department (DHPP) infiltrated the crowd disguised as Ghostbusters to catch the thieves in the act. They managed to apprehend the male suspect with four stolen cell phones in his possession.
The female suspect was identified and approached by the undercover officers on Maria Antônia Street, where she was also found with multiple stolen devices. Both suspects were taken to a police unit where formal charges were filed. The stolen cell phones, which were seized during the operation, will undergo identification processes to facilitate their return to the rightful owners.
This operation highlights the proactive measures being taken by São Paulo's law enforcement to ensure safety during festive events like carnival, a time known for crowds and increased incidents of petty theft. The arrests are part of a larger initiative by the police to combat crime during the busy carnival season, which typically sees a rise in such activities due to the influx of tourists and locals celebrating together.
