City Hall reduces fare and bus pass now costs R$5 in Poços

The bus fare in Poços de Caldas, Brazil, has been reduced to R$5 following a municipal decree, aiming to support public transport sustainability.

The municipal government of Poços de Caldas has announced a reduction in the urban public transport fare to R$5, effective from March 9. This reduction comes through a decree that formalizes the enforcement of Law No. 10.099, which was sanctioned earlier in February. Previously, passengers paid R$6 per ride, and the fare cut relies on a government subsidy designed to ensure the viability of public transport services.

In addition to the fare decrease, the new regulations uphold the half-price student pass, allowing students who meet specific eligibility criteria to travel at a 50% discount. This initiative allows students to benefit from reduced travel costs, specifically for their commutes to and from school during the academic year, thus encouraging education accessibility through economical transport options.

Moreover, the decree introduces free bus rides for members of the local Tiro de Guerra program, provided they are in uniform and have official identification. This policy reflects the municipal authorities' commitment to supporting local initiatives and ensuring that essential services like public transportation remain affordable and accessible to various community members, thus fostering greater social equity within Poços de Caldas.
