This continued recognition reinforces their commitment to high-quality research and education.
Having held this status since the inception of the program two decades ago, LMU and TUM are the only universities in Germany to have maintained this distinction without interruption. The status brings both honor and significant financial support, which is crucial for maintaining their research initiatives and educational quality. During the current funding period, which ends this year, both universities have benefited from an annual budget of 20 million euros from the federal government, complemented by an additional 6 million euros each from the state government.
