Apicum-Açu City Council Revokes Decree Increasing Mayor and Vice Mayor Salaries Following MP Recommendation
The Apicum-Açu City Council has revoked a decree that had raised salaries for the mayor and vice mayor after a recommendation from the state's public prosecutor's office, highlighting legal irregularities in the decision-making process.
On March 4, the City Council of Apicum-Açu, Brazil, revoked Legislative Decree No. 02/2024, which had established the salary increases for the mayor and vice mayor for the 2025-2028 term. The decision to revoke the decree followed a recommendation from the Maranhão Public Ministry (MP-MA), specifically through the Bacuri Prosecutor’s Office, indicating that the increase was improperly enacted. The public prosecutor, Igor Adriano Trinta Marques, emphasized that such decisions regarding political remuneration should be made through an ordinary law, adhering strictly to the legislative process, which includes initiative, discussion, voting, sanction, and publication.
