The eighth edition of the International Circus Meetings of Abidjan opens its doors

The eighth edition of the International Circus Meetings of Abidjan, featuring leading West African and global circus companies, has officially commenced in Côte d'Ivoire.

On March 11, the Eighth International Circus Meetings of Abidjan (Rica) were inaugurated in Côte d'Ivoire, celebrating the vibrancy and talent of the circus arts from both West Africa and around the globe. Since its inception in 2018, this annual event has consolidated its status as a significant platform for showcasing circus performances, drawing numerous companies and artists together in a festive atmosphere. This year, six circus groups participated, showcasing a total of around fifty artists that highlight the skill and creativity unique to the medium.

One of the standout performances comes from the Guinean company Tinafan, known for their high-flying acts and impressive aerial displays. Abdoulaye Keita, a performing acrobat, exemplifies the skill required for such performances, balancing the art of acrobatics with physical strength. His routine, which includes complex maneuvers like the salto, demonstrates the athleticism and sophistication expected at such renowned events, contributing to the festival’s reputation as a pinnacle of circus art in the region.

The annual Rica serves not only as a showcase for existing talents but also fosters collaboration and innovation within the circus community, encouraging young artists while paying homage to the existing traditions of West African circus. As these performances unfold, they not only entertain but also serve to strengthen cultural ties within the region and promote the circus as an art form on a broader scale, showcasing how it can captivate audiences in Abidjan and beyond.
