Night and morning of emergencies in Quito: overturned trailer, bus in flames, and landslide on Simón Bolívar

Emergency incidents occurred in Quito due to adverse weather, including a landslide, a traffic accident, and a bus fire.

During the night of March 10 and the early hours of March 11, Quito faced multiple emergency incidents caused by severe weather conditions. The first major incident occurred around 7:00 PM when a landslide blocked the Simón Bolívar Avenue in the La Forestal area. The blockage was significant, with vegetation, mud, and debris covering much of the road, which took the fire department several hours to clear, resulting in severe traffic congestion to the south of the city.

As the situation evolved, another emergency took place at around 9:00 PM on the road to Papallacta, where a traffic collision involved two vehicles head-on, injuring seven individuals. Paramedics from the Quito Fire Department responded to the scene, providing necessary medical assistance. The accident resulted in the temporary closure of the road for cleanup and investigation.

This sequence of events highlights the vulnerabilities of Quito's infrastructure to extreme weather conditions, raising concerns about future emergency preparedness and response strategies in urban settings. Residents are advised to remain cautious and alert for further adverse weather that could exacerbate the situation and lead to more incidents like these.
