Nego Di's stand-up, which reportedly had box office proceeds withheld to pay a client, is postponed: 'Apparently there is no intention to reimburse,' says the author of the lawsuit
Nego Di's stand-up show was postponed after a court ruling mandated the withholding of box office proceeds to cover a debt.
The stand-up performance titled 'Diário Di um ex-detento' by Brazilian comedian Nego Di has been postponed following a court ruling that mandated the retention of ticket sales revenue as a guarantee for debt repayment. The show was set to take place on March 14 in Biguaçu, Santa Catarina, but the decision to withhold R$ 7,266.40 from the event's box office was aimed at satisfying a judicial debt owed by Nego Di. This legal action was initiated in 2022 by entrepreneur Thiago Lisboa and is presently in the execution phase of the sentence.
The order issued by the 5th Special Civil Court of Porto Alegre on March 2 indicated that the platform Pensa no Evento should reserve the ticket sales revenue until the debt obligation specified in the legal process was fulfilled. Upon inquiry about the situation, Pensa no Evento confirmed that tickets had been refunded and the event postponed, with no new date provided yet. This unexpected turn of events has left the creditor, Thiago Lisboa, surprised, particularly upon discovering the postponement through the ticket sales website, where certain sectors had already sold out.
The implications of this situation extend beyond just the financial aspect, affecting Nego Di's reputation and potential future engagements. The postponement may also impact audience anticipation and ticket sales in the long run, as the public reaction to the news and the comedian’s ability to navigate this legal entanglement remain uncertain. As comedians and entertainers increasingly rely on live performances for revenue, ensuring clear management of legal and financial obligations becomes crucial for sustaining their careers in the competitive Brazilian entertainment landscape.
