Mother Jumped into River Leaving 2-3 Year Old Children on Bridge; Rescued by People

A mother, after leaving her two young children on a bridge in Jharkhand, jumped into the river and was subsequently rescued by nearby onlookers.

On Wednesday morning, chaos erupted at the Koyal Bridge in the Medininagar district of Jharkhand when a woman reportedly left her two small children on the bridge and jumped into the river below. Witnesses observed the woman arrive at the bridge with her children but suddenly left them behind before taking the plunge. The incident prompted a swift response from authorities, as mobile police units known as Tiger Mobile arrived at the scene, where they provided immediate assistance and rushed the injured woman to Medinirai Medical College Hospital, where she was reported to be in critical condition.

The woman was identified as Aarti Devi, a resident of Naawagehta village in the Lesliganj police area, and reports indicate that her parents are from the Garda Neura area under the Chainpur police jurisdiction. Although the exact reasons behind her drastic actions remain unclear, initial assumptions suggest possible mental health issues. Eyewitness accounts reported that the children appeared to be about two to three years old, which heightens the distress of the situation and raises concerns about their emotional well-being following such a traumatic event.

This incident has drawn considerable public attention and concern regarding maternal mental health, especially in the context of the challenges faced by parents in extreme stress. Such occurrences spotlight the urgent need for mental health resources and support systems for families dealing with psychological difficulties in India, where stigma surrounding mental health remains prevalent. In a broader social perspective, this case underscores the societal obligation to ensure that parents receive the help they need to prevent tragic incidents from happening in the future.
