15-year-old dies after drowning while jumping from bridge into river in coast of SP

A 15-year-old boy drowned in the Mongaguá River in São Paulo after jumping off a bridge with friends.

A tragic incident occurred on Friday, September 6, when a 15-year-old boy drowned in the Mongaguá River in Mongaguá, São Paulo. The incident took place as the adolescent was part of a group of youths who were jumping off a bridge into the river. Reports from the local Police Civil indicate that the boy started to have difficulty while in the water and was unable to resurface.

Emergency services, including the Corpo de Bombeiros (Fire Department), were quickly dispatched to the scene. They conducted a search and managed to locate the boy through free diving techniques, meaning without equipment. However, he was found in a state of cardiac arrest and was immediately transported to the Pronto-Socorro (Emergency Room) in Mongaguá, but unfortunately, he could not be revived.

The local authorities have classified this incident as an accidental death, which has been formally recorded at the 1st District Police Station in Mongaguá. The incident raises concerns about water safety and the risks associated with jumping into rivers from heights, especially among young people.
