A tragic incident occurred in Sambalpur, Odisha, where a woman jumped into a river from a bridge and later died in the hospital despite attempts by bystanders to save her.
On Tuesday, a heart-wrenching incident took place in Sambalpur district of Odisha when a woman named Anju Kumhar plunged into the Mahanadi River from a bridge. Witnesses reported that Anju had been standing suspiciously on the bridge looking down at the river before making the fatal leap. Concerned by her behavior, passersby attempted to intervene, trying to talk her out of it and even reaching out to grab her, but she ignored their pleas.
Minutes before her jump, Anju was reportedly engaged in a conversation on her mobile phone. After ending the call, she unexpectedly leapt off the bridge, creating chaos among those present. A video of the incident has circulated on social media, showing attempts by bystanders to prevent her from jumping, yet she remained resolute and jumped anyway. Following the incident, the Burla police were alerted and arrived on the scene, collaborating with locals to recover Anju from the river, where she was promptly taken to the hospital.
Despite the swift response and efforts made to save her, Anju succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. This tragic situation has raised concerns in the community about mental health awareness and the need for better support systems for individuals in distress, highlighting the critical importance of intervention during such precarious moments.
