Four Men Detained in Molėtai District for One Bag of Drugs
Four men were detained in Molėtai District after a bag containing suspected narcotics was thrown from their vehicle during a police stop.
On March 10, around 2:20 PM local time, police in the Utena region stopped a 'Dacia' car on the Vilnius–Utena road for inspection. During the stop, a transparent bag containing a suspected narcotic or psychotropic substance was thrown from the vehicle. The four men inside the car, born in 2007, 1993, 1997, and 1991, are suspected of transporting narcotics, leading to their detention and placement in the Panevėžys County police custody.
The police have not disclosed the amount of drugs contained in the discarded bag, but the initiation of the investigation under specific articles of the Criminal Code suggests that this was not merely a personal use quantity of drugs. Authorities have stated that an investigation has commenced for illegal possession with intent to distribute narcotics or psychotropic substances, or for the illegal possession of a very large quantity of such substances.
This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding drug trafficking in Lithuania, particularly among young individuals. The involvement of a minor, born in 2007, raises questions about the proliferation of drugs among youth and the implications for law enforcement strategies when dealing with such offenses. The police's proactive measures in stopping the vehicle reflect a broader campaign to tackle drug-related crimes in the region.
