Temperature cannot hinder the Otepää World Cup stage
The Otepää World Cup stage for biathlon is set to proceed as planned, despite warm weather conditions.
The Otepää biathlon World Cup stage is scheduled to take place this upcoming weekend, marking a significant return after a four-year hiatus. Despite unseasonably warm weather, the local organization has confirmed that the event will go ahead as planned, with all preparations in place. The competition venues, including stands and trails, are ready to accommodate the events over four days, with six different competitions set to unfold. Hillar Zahkna, the head of the event's organizing committee, expressed confidence in the trail's condition, asserting it remains robust enough to handle the scheduled events.
The current weather conditions, characterized by a cold winter leading to strong ground frost, have helped maintain a sufficient snow cover of about 40-50 centimeters on the trails. Zahkna noted that although slight melting is expected—approximately one centimeter per day—the overall snow depth is reassuring for the upcoming competitions. This event not only serves as a benchmark for organizers but also as a trial run ahead of the World Championships to be held next year in Otepää. By testing temporary stands and new facilities, the organizing committee aims to ensure a successful large-scale event in the future.
The Otepää World Cup stage this year is crucial as it tests the capabilities of the venue before hosting further significant competitions. This is an opportunity to evaluate logistical operations and audience accommodations, particularly given the presence of a new media center and broadcasting arrangements. As the competition draws near, local authorities and organizers are hopeful for good weather and successful events, reinforcing Otepää's position in the international biathlon calendar.
