VIDEO: Aggressive student at Ozolnieki Secondary School: Parents will be evaluated
Latvian authorities are evaluating the parents of an aggressive student at Ozolnieki Secondary School after reports of emotional and physical harm caused to both peers and teachers.
In February, various media outlets reported on an aggressive student at Ozolnieki Secondary School, whose behavior has been causing emotional and physical distress to fellow students and teachers alike. In a broad inter-institutional meeting held in Jelgava, it was decided that relevant services will verify whether the parents of the aggressive student are fulfilling their parental duties in the best interests of the child. This meeting was attended by 20 specialists from various fields.
The meeting concluded that the ongoing violent behavior exhibited by this student has been hampered by both insufficient collaboration among different institutions and the reluctance of the parents to acknowledge the seriousness of the situation. There is an expectation that the local guardianship board will take a more significant role in resolving the situation moving forward, as the community seeks to address these aggressive behaviors in a more systematic manner.
Prior to this meeting, the State Police had indicated that several administrative processes had been initiated concerning the student, including internal reviews related to physical and emotional violence. Four administrative cases are currently under consideration by the Children's Affairs Subcommittee of the Jelgava Administrative Committee, indicating that the authorities are taking steps to address these serious concerns.
