Esbjerg Municipality Withdraws Part of Police Report on Illegal Felling of Oak Trees
Esbjerg Municipality has retracted part of its police report regarding the illegal felling of oak trees, admitting that it itself had unlawfully cut down three trees without proper registration.
Esbjerg Municipality recently disclosed that it had reported the illegal felling of several oak trees along a bicycle path in the Sønderris area since 2021. However, it was found that the municipality itself was responsible for the unlawful removal of three of those trees, which were not documented in any official record. This revelation led the municipality to issue a press release acknowledging their oversight in the matter.
The head of Parks and Mobility in Esbjerg, Jesper Gammeljord Brødsgaard, expressed regret over the failure to register the tree removals accurately but emphasized that the municipality remains committed to taking any instances of unlawful felling on public land seriously. He reiterated the importance of trees for both nature and the urban environment, affirming that they will continue to respond with police reports for unauthorized tree removals, regardless of the retracing of their own actions.
In light of this incident, the municipality plans to review and enhance its internal procedures to ensure that all future tree removals are properly registered. This move aims to prevent similar occurrences in the future and reinforce their accountability regarding environmental protection.
