The Prime Minister urges the government to decide on two service inspections related to the implementation of 'Rail Baltica'
Latvia's Prime Minister Evika Siliņa has proposed that the government conduct two service inspections regarding the 'Rail Baltica' railway project implementation.
Latvia's Prime Minister Evika Siliņa has called for the government to decide on two service inspections related to the implementation of the 'Rail Baltica' railway project, which is a significant infrastructure initiative connecting the Baltic states. This proposal, shared on the social media platform X, emphasizes the need for transparency and accountability concerning decisions made about the project. Siliņa underscored that the inspections should review procurement conducted by 'RB Rail', the joint venture for the project, and also address unfinished bridge supports over the Daugava River and the ongoing railway viaduct in Mārupē.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of providing the public with clear and detailed information regarding previous decisions, their justification, and their potential impact on the state budget, as well as the accountability of involved officials. She highlighted the need for the 'Rail Baltica' project to be completed, framing it as an issue of safety and development for the region. According to Siliņa, the execution of the project must be responsible and transparent in terms of financial expenditures.
This initiative comes amidst growing concerns in the Baltic countries regarding the project's progress and its implications for regional connections. As Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia collaborate on the 'Rail Baltica' project, it is crucial not only for enhancing transportation links but also for regional security and economic growth. The inspections may bring clarity and help safeguard public funds while ensuring the successful completion of this significant infrastructure project.
