+16 Degrees Recorded in Mērsraga

Several weather stations in Latvia recorded a new maximum temperature for the first decade of March, reaching +16.4 degrees Celsius in Mērsraga.

On Tuesday, four observation stations in Latvia reported breaking the record for the maximum air temperature for the first decade of March, as per data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVĢMC). The highest temperature was recorded in Mērsraga, where the thermometer reached +16.4 degrees Celsius. Previously, such warm weather in Latvia was last noted on October 11 of the previous year.

In addition to Mērsraga, records were also surpassed in Rūjiena, Skrīveri, and Stende, with Kolka setting a record on March 10. During the afternoon, temperatures in the LVĢMC observation network ranged from +7 to +8 degrees Celsius in the ports of Liepāja and Ventspils and Bauska meteorological station, to +15.1 degrees in Stende and +16.2 degrees in Mērsraga.

In comparison, last year on the same day, temperatures in Liepāja peaked at +17.4 degrees Celsius, which is the highest recorded in Latvia during the first half of March. Over the past two weeks, a total of 37 temperature records have been broken across the country on seven different days, indicating an unusually warm trend for this time of year.
