Delivery of units of the Residential Moaçara in Santarém confirmed for March 24
The delivery of 1,401 housing units from the Residential Moaçara in Santarém, Brazil, is set for March 24, 2026, as confirmed by the National Secretary of Housing, Augusto Rabelo.
The delivery date for the long-awaited housing units at the Residential Moaçara in Santarém, Pará, has been set for March 24, 2026. This announcement was made to TV Tapajós by the National Secretary of Housing, Augusto Rabelo, indicating significant progress in the government's initiative to provide affordable housing under the Minha Casa Minha Vida program. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is expected to attend the ceremony, reflecting the government's commitment to addressing housing shortages in the region.
Out of the 1,401 units designated for the Residential Moaçara, 120 families from the neighborhood association, Ambave, will initially be able to move in. These families had long awaited housing solutions, with the association having originally sought homes for 507 members. This led to legal action to ensure that their needs and the original list of beneficiaries from the early 2000s were honored. A court ruling in 2025 mandated a reassessment to comply with the eligibility requirements of the Minha Casa Minha Vida program which states that beneficiaries must not have property registered in their name and must have an income of up to three minimum wages.
The initiative is considered crucial for improving living conditions for many families in Santarém and represents a step forward in fulfilling the government's housing promises. It also underscores the importance of community organization and legal advocacy in securing social benefits. As the delivery date approaches, the community's anticipation and engagement around the event highlight the ongoing challenges and hopes surrounding housing in Brazil.
