Those who fail to pay by the deadline will need to generate a new updated payment guide from the municipality's website, incurring a 3% penalty fee and 0.5% monthly interest, as stipulated by the local administration.

This year, changes to the IPTU follow a reassessment of the General Plant of Real Estate Values, which has led to increased property values and, consequently, tax amounts. The adjustments could result in gradual increases in tax liability, with possible hikes of up to 50% by 2027, according to city officials. This change seeks to reflect the actual market value of properties in the area, ensuring a fairer taxation system.

The IPTU bill also encompasses the Waste Collection Fee and the Contribution for Public Lighting and Security Monitoring. Citizens have the option to pay the tax in a single installment or in up to ten installments, with previous deadlines for single payments ranging from February 9 to February 13. This structured payment plan aims to alleviate the financial burden on residents while updating the tax's alignment with current real estate valuations in São José dos Campos.
