'In four days they will be shut down...' Restaurants in Delhi on the brink of closure, LPG crisis!

Restaurants in Delhi are facing closure due to a shortage of LPG cylinders stemming from a global gas crisis affecting supply chains.

Due to the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, there is a significant shortage of gas at a global level, which has started to impact India. Major cities including Mumbai, Delhi, and Pune are experiencing high prices and a scarcity of LPG cylinders, placing immense pressure on the restaurant industry. Delhi is now among the cities struggling with LPG shortages, leading to widespread chaos in the sector.

The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) has publicly expressed its concern, revealing that the stock of LPG in restaurants across the capital is diminishing. They have warned that if the situation does not improve within the next four days, many restaurants may have no option but to shut down. This reflects a critical brewing crisis which not only affects the livelihood of restaurant owners but also echoes broader economic implications for the hospitality industry.

In response to the crisis, the NRAI has communicated with the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, urging government intervention. The association warns that the government’s push to prioritize domestic products could severely damage restaurants that rely on commercial cylinders for their operations. Currently, several establishments are reported to have only 2-3 days worth of LPG left, highlighting the urgent need for a responsive solution from the authorities to avoid a complete breakdown in restaurant services in Delhi.
