Officers shake down bus passengers, exposing a fake driver among them
Lithuanian border guards apprehended an Uzbek citizen with a suspected counterfeit driver's license while checking documents on a bus traveling from Latvia to Lithuania.
In a recent incident in Pasvalys district, Lithuanian border guards took action against a suspect traveling on a bus registered in Latvia. The bus was en route from Riga to Munich when officers from the PagΔgiai Border Guard team decided to conduct a routine document check. During this process, they noticed a passenger whose documentation raised suspicions, leading to further investigation.
The passenger in question was a 33-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan who held a temporary residence permit in Lithuania. He presented an Uzbek driver's license during the check; however, after careful examination, border guards suspected that the license was not authentic. The assessment revealed several discrepancies that indicated the document did not meet strict security document production standards, raising alarms about its validity.
Following these findings, the border guards concluded that the driver's license was likely a complete forgery. This incident highlights the ongoing issues of document fraud and the importance of vigilance among border control agencies. Legal actions are expected to follow, as possessing or using a falsified document carries significant legal consequences in Lithuania.
