Smuggled drugs in tables – five charged
Five people are being charged for serious drug smuggling after 32.8 kilograms of cannabis were discovered hidden in tables shipped from the USA to Sweden.
Five individuals have been charged with serious drug smuggling after Swedish customs discovered 32.8 kilograms of cannabis hidden in a shipment of tables from the United States. The suspicious package, which was purportedly ordered by a company in Småland, raised alarms at Arlanda Airport in October 2025 when customs officials examined the contents based on the shipping documents. During their inspection, the officials uncovered the concealed drugs inside the wooden tables.
The investigation unfolded quickly after the discovery, with a woman attempting to pick up the tables just days later. She and another woman, who was later revealed to be her accomplice, were apprehended while en route to a storage facility. Authorities acted promptly, leading to the arrest of the company owner and another suspect in connection with the smuggling operation the following day. A fifth suspect was also apprehended in Stockholm in December, bringing to light a broader network involved in the illicit trade.
The case is now set to proceed in the Jönköping District Court, where the defendants face serious charges that could carry significant penalties under Swedish law. This incident underlines ongoing challenges with drug smuggling and highlights the efforts of customs authorities to detect and combat such operations.
