Artificial intelligence will alert about traffic accident risks in São Paulo

The Detran-SP in São Paulo is set to implement artificial intelligence to alert drivers about public road accident risks starting in 2026.

The Detran-SP (Department of Traffic of São Paulo) is planning to use artificial intelligence to provide alerts regarding public road segments that pose a risk of accidents. This initiative, expected to be operational by 2026, will enhance the data analysis capabilities of Infosiga, the state's traffic monitoring system. Once launched, the statistical site will be renamed Infosiga 4.0, indicating a significant upgrade in how traffic data will be analyzed and utilized.

In addition to this AI-based alert system, another update slated for May aims to increase the volume of data collected by military police and traffic agents using an app designed for recording incidents. The Detran claims that these enhancements will directly improve the quality of information fed into the Infosiga system, thus leading to better traffic safety measures.

The app currently used by the military police will also be made available to municipal governments, enhancing the standard of data collection in the region. Roberta Mantovani, the director of Road Safety at Detran-SP, highlighted that these updates will be showcased at Andtech, a traffic technology event that runs until Wednesday, underscoring the emphasis on integrating technology into traffic management in São Paulo.
