The conversion of medications to non-prescription saves resources in the healthcare system
The Greek Health Minister announced that converting medications to non-prescription options helps save healthcare system resources significantly.
In a recent presentation at the EFFIX Annual General Assembly, Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis emphasized the critical role of turning prescription medications into non-prescription ones for the sustainability of Greeceβs healthcare system. He pointed out that for every 1 euro spent on self-care practices, roughly 6.7 euros are saved in the overall healthcare expenditure. This system shows the potential for significant resource savings that could be redirected into other vital aspects of healthcare services.
Georgiadis recognized non-prescription medications' valuable contributions to public health and stressed that this sector needs more proactive government policies to support its growth. The government aims to improve the healthcare framework by reinforcing the importance of self-care and making healthcare services more economical and effective in handling public health challenges.
The general manager of EFFIX, Thomas Dokios, reiterated the impact of self-care products, revealing that over 1 million Greeks use these products daily, translating to a substantial return on investment for the healthcare system. This data underscores the importance of increasing accessibility to non-prescription medications as a means to relieve some of the financial burdens on healthcare institutions and improve population health management.
