High-Cost Medications: Available Today at Neighborhood Pharmacies – How to Apply
A new procedure for the free distribution of High-Cost Medications is now in effect in Greece, allowing patients to access their medications through local pharmacies.
As of Monday, February 16, the implementation of a new procedure for the free distribution of High-Cost Medications (HCM) has begun in Greece, providing an additional option for thousands of patients with serious health conditions. Previously, these medications were available only through EOPYY pharmacies or home delivery, but now insured individuals can collect their medications from their preferred local pharmacy, which will offer pharmaceutical support for the correct use of the treatment.
The newly launched electronic platform by EOPYY includes 10,500 out of a total of 10,850 pharmacies across the country that will participate in distributing specific categories of HCM. This initiative is particularly aimed at patients suffering from cancer and multiple sclerosis (excluding intravenous treatments), allowing them to submit requests electronically and pick up their medications at designated times from chosen pharmacies.
This change marks a significant enhancement in the accessibility of essential medications, aiming to improve patient experience and compliance with treatment plans. By streamlining the process and expanding the locations where patients can collect their medications, the initiative reflects an effort to better accommodate healthcare needs within local communities, ensuring that patients receive the necessary support for their treatments directly within their neighborhoods.
