Father and son arrested twice in less than 2 days suspected of receiving over 70 stolen cattle in MS
A father and son were arrested again in Brazil, suspected of being involved in the theft and trade of stolen cattle, leading to the apprehension of over 70 bovines.
The Civil Police in Brazil arrested a 60-year-old father and his 34-year-old son for the second time in less than two days due to their alleged involvement in a cattle theft scheme in Nova Andradina, Mato Grosso do Sul. Investigators have linked the duo to the reception of more than 70 stolen cattle from local farms, as the crime of 'abigeato'βthe theft of livestock from rural propertyβis a serious concern in the region.
This incident originally came to light when the father and son were first arrested on March 5 after police conducted searches in the rural area of the municipality and discovered stolen cattle at a property associated with them. However, on March 6, the presiding judge released them under specific conditions, including monitoring with electronic ankle bracelets. This leniency raised questions about the handling of such serious offenses.
Just a day later, on March 7, law enforcement officers from the General Investigations Section returned to the Assentamento Teijin area, collaborating with inspectors from the State Agency for Animal and Vegetable Health Defense. Their efforts confirmed the ongoing criminal activity, leading to another arrest amidst ongoing investigations into the network of cattle theft and fraud in the region.
