Italian Woman Dies at 28 in Paragliding Accident in Tenerife
Cristina Colturi, a 28-year-old Italian, died in a paragliding accident in Tenerife while flying with an instructor.
The tragic incident occurred when Cristina Colturi, originally from Castelnuovo Bozzente in Italy, was paragliding in Tenerife on a tandem flight with an instructor. The duo crashed into a rocky area near La Enramada beach, resulting in critical injuries for Cristina who was immediately hospitalized. Despite surgical efforts at the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after. The instructor sustained minor injuries and remains hospitalized.
Cristina's decision to take the flight was part of a Christmas gift from her partner, and she had previous experience paragliding in Italy, making her excited to try it again in Tenerife where she had resided for a year. She worked as a color analysis specialist, or 'armocromista', in a local hotel, displaying her adaptability and passion for her career in a new country. Her family, who came from Italy to support her during this tragic time, honored her last wish by consenting to organ donation, reflecting the depth of their love and their commitment to her legacy.
This event has drawn attention not only due to its tragic nature but also as a reminder of the risks associated with adventure sports, especially in a popular tourist destination like Tenerife. It highlights the importance of safety measures and regulations that should be in place to protect individuals engaging in such high-risk activities, as well as the emotional impact on the global community that experiences such loss during recreational pursuits.
