In February, Lithuania saw a 25% increase in electric vehicle registrations compared to the same month last year, totaling 1,227 new vehicles.
In February of this year, Lithuania registered a total of 1,227 light passenger electric vehicles, which includes 564 pure electric and 663 plug-in hybrid cars. This marks a significant increase of 25.1% from the same month the previous year, when only 981 electric vehicles were registered. The trend continues from January, which had seen 1,332 electric vehicles registered, indicating a consistent growth in the adoption of electric vehicles in the country.
As of March 1, 2026, the official register of the Lithuanian vehicle fleet accounts for 46,631 light passenger cars (M1 category), of which 24,248 are pure electric vehicles and 22,383 are plug-in hybrids. This growing number highlights the increasing shift towards more sustainable transport options in Lithuania, reflecting broader trends in environmental awareness and governmental policies favoring electric mobility.
Additionally, February saw the registration of 13 light commercial electric vehicles, only slightly down from 14 the previous year, further emphasizing the broader acceptance of electric vehicles across various vehicle categories. However, the article also briefly mentions an incident in Vilnius where an electric vehicle charging station caught fire, resulting in two cars being damaged, showing that while the adoption of electric vehicles is increasing, there are still growing pains associated with this shift.
