In January, 25% more electric cars registered in the country than at the same time last year
In January 2023, Lithuania saw a 25% increase in the number of newly registered electric vehicles compared to the same month in the previous year, with a total of 1,330 electric cars registered.
In January 2023, Lithuania experienced a notable increase in electric vehicle registrations, with 1,330 new electric cars registered, marking a 24.8% increase from January 2022. Out of these, 582 were pure electric vehicles and 750 were plug-in hybrids, indicating a growing trend towards electrification in the country's automotive sector. This surge reflects a broader shift in consumer preferences towards more environmentally friendly vehicles amid increasing awareness of climate change.
According to data from the Lithuanian Electric Vehicle Association (LEA), electric vehicles currently constitute 2.48% of the total light passenger vehicle fleet, while pure electric cars make up 1.29%. The data also revealed that electric vehicles account for 1.17% of the commercial light vehicle fleet. The statistics demonstrate the gradual but steady transition towards electric mobility in Lithuania, as individuals and businesses increasingly consider sustainable transportation options.
In addition to the rise in electric vehicle registrations, the report also highlights the significant market shares held by hybrid and internal combustion engine vehicles. Hybrid vehicles represented 6.3% of the passenger car fleet as of February 1, 2023, while gasoline-driven and diesel vehicles comprised 22.4% and 63.3% respectively. The data underscores the importance of continued efforts to promote electric transportation infrastructure and incentives to further increase electric vehicle adoption in the coming years, as Lithuania continues its journey towards a more sustainable automotive landscape.
