FG hails Zulum for expanding technical, vocational education in Borno
The Federal Government of Nigeria praised Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum for enhancing technical and vocational education with the graduation of 3,000 trainees across multiple institutes.
The Federal Government of Nigeria has praised Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State for his significant efforts in improving Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the region. This commendation follows the graduation of approximately 3,000 trainees from nine Vocational Enterprise Institutes and Centres throughout Borno State, highlighting the administration's commitment to empowering the youth through practical skills education. In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Government acknowledged this initiative as a critical development in providing young Nigerians with employable skills that can foster economic growth.
Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the initiative as a pivotal measure to equip the youth with relevant skill sets for the job market. The government believes that enhancing vocational education is essential in addressing unemployment and creating a skilled workforce that can contribute to the nation’s economy. The graduates from the vocational training received starter packs and an entrepreneurship grant of ₦100,000 each, aimed at facilitating their transition into viable economic activities and encouraging self-employment. This move is aligned with broader strategies to promote economic self-sufficiency among young Nigerians.
The initiative underscores the increasing recognition of TVET in Nigeria’s educational policy landscape, as the government seeks to pivot toward a knowledge-based economy. By investing in vocational education, the state government aims to reduce youth unemployment and provide sustainable pathways for the young population. The success of these training programs can serve as a model for other states facing similar economic challenges and can potentially impact overall national development if scaled effectively across the country.
