Nigeria: Government to Complete 570MW Alaoji Plant Next Year
The Nigerian government is set to complete the 570 MW Alaoji power plant by the third quarter of 2027, following a revised recovery plan after addressing delays.
The Managing Director and CEO of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Engr. Jennifer Adighije, has announced that the Alaoji power plant, with a generation capacity of 570 MW, is scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2027. During a tour of the facility with members of the House of Representatives Committee on Power, Adighije reassured lawmakers that the project had addressed previous delays through a clear recovery plan.
Adighije emphasized the proactive steps taken to mitigate the issues that caused the previous delays, stating that the company had compelled the contractors to present a revised recovery plan aimed at ensuring the timely completion of the project. This plan is intended to rectify the earlier slippages in the schedule, which had necessitated an adjustment to the timeline originally envisioned for the project's completion.
The announcement of the revised completion date reflects a commitment from the Nigerian government to increase power generation capacity, which is crucial for addressing the energy needs of the country. The completion of the Alaoji plant is expected to contribute significantly to the national grid, aiding in Nigeria's efforts to enhance electricity supply, thereby supporting economic growth and development in the region.
