A tragic accident during cone collection in Józefów, Poland, resulted in one fatality and one person in critical condition following a machinery rollover.
On Sunday morning, workers in Józefów, Wielkopolska, were engaged in the collection of cones using a special telehandler equipped with a work basket. The operation involved three workers: two were collecting cones from the basket while a third operated the machine from inside the cabin. Tragically, the telehandler overturned for reasons currently unknown while the basket was approximately 10 meters above the ground.
At the time of the accident, a 59-year-old and a 49-year-old who were collecting cones were positioned in the basket. The older worker died at the scene, while the younger man was transported to a hospital in Poznań in critical condition, with doctors urgently attempting to save his life. The 59-year-old operator of the telehandler also sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital in Nowy Tomyśl.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident but had not released details as of Sunday evening, raising concerns about workplace safety and machinery usage in the region. The tragedy highlights the risks associated with agricultural machinery operations in forestry work and underlines the need for stringent safety regulations and training for workers handling such equipment.
