Police search Lee Hye-hoon's home… allegations of fraudulent apartment application and more
Police have launched a formal investigation into former lawmaker Lee Hye-hoon for alleged fraudulent apartment applications and other misconduct after searching her home and several locations.
The police have intensified their investigation into former lawmaker Lee Hye-hoon, who was nominated as the Minister of Planning and Budget under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration but faced allegations during verification processes. Accusations against her include fraudulent apartment applications, linked to manipulation of family status to gain an advantage in the housing lottery for a sought-after Seoul apartment. Lee has previously denied these claims, attributing her son’s marriage and address changes to personal circumstances, but the police are pursuing this matter seriously with necessary investigative actions, including a search of her residence and four other related locations.
The investigation comes amidst concerns regarding Lee’s past, where she has also been accused of providing special treatment to her children regarding military service and exerting inappropriate influence over her staff during her time as a lawmaker. These allegations have led citizens’ groups to file complaints, further complicating her public image. As the police proceed with their inquiry, they have indicated that they will coordinate further actions, such as attending interviews with Lee, after analyzing the seized materials and interviewing related individuals.
