Lee Hwa-young's side requests the original investigation records regarding the 'Suwon District Prosecutors' salmon and alcohol party allegations'

Lee Hwa-young's defense team demands the complete investigation records from the Suwon District Court related to allegations of coercion and perjury involving alcohol parties.

The former Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Lee Hwa-young, is currently embroiled in a trial concerning accusations of perjury related to a party involving salmon and alcohol. During the proceedings, it was revealed that prosecutor Park Sang-yong submitted a list of allegedly manipulated investigative records to the Seoul High Prosecutor’s Office’s Human Rights Violation Task Force. Lee's defense team has formally requested to receive the list of all investigation records from May 17, 2023, citing evidence that there was a drinking event on that date in the prosecutor's office.

The defense claims that they require these records to ensure a fair trial, particularly in light of the specific allegations surrounding the proceedings, which suggest that certain defendants were allowed to engage in drinking and dining and that this may have influenced their testimonies. The defense has raised concerns about the reliability and completeness of the records submitted by prosecutor Park, arguing that there are inconsistencies between the records presented during earlier investigations into the North Korean money transfer case and those submitted later.

In light of these developments, the Seoul High Prosecutor's Office is conducting an investigation into prosecutor Park's conduct during the investigation into Lee and others, suspecting that he may have facilitated unofficial practices to influence the outcomes of testimonies. Lee Hwa-young's legal representatives emphasize the discrepancies in the documentation, noting that out of over 80 records reflecting his appearances before the court, there were only about ten interrogation records available, raising serious questions about the integrity of the investigative process.
