Incheon City Supports Conversion of School Buses from Diesel to LPG with 3 Million Won
Incheon City announces financial support for converting school buses from diesel to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), offering 3 million won per vehicle as part of its environmental initiative.
Incheon City has reported a shift to eco-friendly transportation, transitioning 730 diesel-powered school buses to cleaner alternatives between 2018 and last year. This year, they aim to convert another 11 school buses to LPG as part of their 'School Bus Conversion Support Project', with applications opening from the 16th of this month until the 10th of next month. Each qualifying vehicle can receive a financial support of 3 million won, which is intended to encourage owners to scrap their old diesel buses and opt for new LPG vehicles.
The selection process prioritizes one vehicle per person and one per institution to maximize the number of beneficiaries. The criteria for selection include existing school buses, vehicles used for paid transportation, early retirement vehicles, and other diesel vehicles. Incheon's aim is to mitigate air pollution through the increased use of LPG vehicles, which are essential for reducing emissions in areas with frequent child transportation, as children are particularly vulnerable to air pollution.
Umihyang, the head of Incheon's Air Quality Management Division, emphasized the necessity of converting school buses to environmentally friendly alternatives, citing childrenβs heightened susceptibility to air quality issues. With the program set to end in 2026, she urged vehicle owners and relevant organizations to engage actively in this initiative, highlighting the initiative as not just beneficial but essential for the health of children in the community.
