Middle East repatriation flight lands at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport

A repatriation flight organized by the Finnish Foreign Ministry has arrived from Oman, bringing Finnish citizens back to Finland.

A repatriation flight arranged by the Finnish Foreign Ministry from Oman has successfully landed at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. The flight, which was carrying Finnish nationals returning from the United Arab Emirates, departed from Muscat around 4 PM local time and made a stop in Alexandria, Egypt, before arriving in Helsinki at approximately 2:41 AM. The journey was long, as passengers were first transported by buses from Dubai and Abu Dhabi to Muscat before boarding the flight.

Onboard the flight were a little over 160 passengers, including around 70 children. About 350 people had registered for the return flight, but the Finnish Foreign Ministry prioritized vulnerable individuals, such as families with children, to ensure their safe return. The Foreign Ministry continues to assess the need for additional repatriation flights, advising travelers to also look for commercial flight options to secure their return.

In response to the ongoing situation, Finnair has announced plans for extra flights from Muscat to Finland to help customers stranded in Dubai due to flight cancellations. This initiative aims to assist those affected by the disruption and to facilitate the safe return of Finnish travelers from the Middle East during these challenging times, reflecting the nation's commitment to supporting its citizens abroad.
