Kiplimo Breaks the World Record Again; Estonian Athlete Finishes Second in 10 km Run
Ugandan long-distance runner Jacob Kiplimo has set a new world record in the half marathon, while Estonian runner Remi Edur placed second in the 10 km race.
Jacob Kiplimo from Uganda made headlines again on Sunday by breaking the half marathon world record for the second time in Lisbon. This achievement comes as Edur, an 18-year-old Estonian athlete, achieved a commendable second place in the 10 km race. Kiplimo previously set the record in November 2021, clocking in at 57:31, a record he held until it was narrowly beaten by Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha in October 2024. However, Kiplimo reclaimed the title with a time of 57 minutes and 20 seconds during this latest race in Lisbon.
Expressing his joy, Kiplimo mentioned that he had a sense of possibility after completing the first 10 kilometers, prompting him to push his pace in the final stretches of the race. His latest record is significant not only for his personal achievements but also for the ongoing competition between long-distance runners from different countries, highlighting the increasing standards in this athletic field. Moreover, it sheds light on the support and recognition these athletes receive in their respective nations and internationally.
The triumph of Kiplimo and the performance of Estonian runner Remi Edur showcases the diversity and competitiveness of track and field events today, particularly in distance running. As records continue to be shattered and new athletes emerge, the global running community anticipates further exciting developments in future races, encouraging more young athletes to participate and strive for excellence in distance events.
