In a remarkable athletic achievement, Ugandan runner Jacob Kiplimo reclaimed the world record for the half marathon this Sunday at the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon, clocking in at an impressive 57 minutes and 20 seconds. This notable performance not only set a new benchmark by improving upon his previous record of 57:31, established in November 2021, but it also surpassed the record set earlier in 2024 by Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha. The confirmation from World Athletics regarding the eligibility of this result for ratification adds further significance to Kiplimo's achievement.

The race unfolded with intense competition, showing the prowess of Africa's elite distance runners. Kiplimo managed to pull ahead in the final segment of the race, highlighting his strategic pacing and endurance capabilities. Kenya's Nicholas Kipkorir finished in second place with a time of 58:08, followed closely by Gilbert Kiprotich, who crossed the line at 58:59. The event was characterized by a strong display of athletic skill, particularly in the latter stages where Kiplimo seized the opportunity to break the world record.

Kiplimo's post-race comments reflected his elation and determination, emphasizing his belief that the world record was achievable after the 10-kilometer mark. His performance not only signifies personal triumph but also re-establishes Uganda's prominence in the world of long-distance running. This new record could inspire upcoming athletes and renew interest in future competitions, particularly in the East African region known for producing top-tier long-distance runners.
