The Zero Debt Collective initiative aims to assist consumers in financial distress by providing debt renegotiation services across 21 cities in Rio de Janeiro.

The Zero Debt Collective event, organized by the State Department of Consumer Defense (SEDCON) and PROCON-RJ, is set to take place from March 9 to 13, aiming to support consumers facing financial vulnerability across 21 cities in Rio de Janeiro state. Last year, the program helped around six thousand consumers and renegotiated about R$ 40 million in debts, underscoring its significance in addressing financial hardships.

Locations hosting the event include cities in different regions of the state, such as Macaé, Campos dos Goytacazes, São Francisco do Itabapoana in the North Fluminense; Teresópolis and Petrópolis in the Serrana region; and Araruama, Cabo Frio, and Iguaba Grande in the Baixada Litorânea. This initiative represents a collaborative effort to promote financial inclusion and assist those who are economically distressed, making debt management options more accessible to those in need.

According to Gutemberg Fonseca, the State Secretary of Consumer Defense, the collective demonstrates the commitment of government agencies to consumer rights and financial education, providing a crucial platform for individuals to reorganize their economic situations. The broader implications include a potential uplift of local economies as consumers regain financial stability and confidence in managing their debts.
