A stunning world record was set in athletics - Wilma Murto placed third

Wilma Murto finished third in a pole vault competition at Loughborough University with a result of 446 cm, falling short of the world record.

Finnish pole vaulter Wilma Murto placed third at a pole vault competition held at Loughborough University. She achieved a height of 446 cm, but aimed to clear 460 cm to post a personal best. Despite her efforts, Murto's performance fell short as she struggled with the heights, particularly at 456 cm where her pole didn't work as expected during her jumps. The competition was won by New Zealand’s Olivia McTaggart, who vaulted 464 cm.

With the World Indoor Championships starting in Poland in a little over a week, Murto currently stands as the 13th-ranked jumper eligible for the event based on her season's best of 460 cm. However, there is still a possibility that she may receive an invitation to compete if another athlete withdraws from the championships, providing her with a potential chance to participate.

Murto expressed optimism about the data she gathered during the competition, which would aid her training moving forward, regardless of the outcome regarding the championship invitation. She remains focused on her training ahead of the outdoor season, indicating that she gained valuable insights from this competition as she prepares for future challenges in her athletic career.
