Wilma Murto still hasn't competed - explains the reason

Pole vault European champion Wilma Murto announced on Instagram that illness has prevented her from competing this indoor season.

Wilma Murto, the reigning European champion in pole vaulting, has taken to Instagram to share her current situation. The 27-year-old athlete has been unable to compete during the ongoing indoor season due to falling ill. She reported that her illness was the flu, which proved to be particularly stubborn. Despite receiving a vaccination and medication, she endured a fever that lasted for over a week, marking her first experience with this illness.

Murto was scheduled to compete in France last weekend as well as the weekend prior but has had to shorten her indoor season significantly due to her health issues. However, she remains hopeful about competing at a meet in Livi on February 19. Although she describes the start of her season as somewhat tragically comic, she expresses confidence in the idea that athletics always offers a next competition and opportunity. In her post, she also shares that she has begun to get back into training, looking forward to future highlights that, she humorously mentions, will involve more than just baking pastries.

Last year was disruptive for Murto in terms of competitions and training due to injuries and various challenges. With her recent setbacks from illness adding another layer of difficulty, the athlete's ability to regroup and resume competing will be crucial as she aims to get back on track and make the most of the upcoming outdoor season later this year.
