Situation of those on the repatriation flight according to the consulate chief: 'We must not underestimate the stress'

The Finnish consulate chief Jussi Tanner talks about the challenges faced by approximately 160 Finns on a repatriation flight from Oman to Helsinki, emphasizing the importance of patience amidst difficult circumstances.

Jussi Tanner, the consul chief responsible for the repatriation operation, provided insights into the ongoing repatriation flight that left Oman for Helsinki carrying around 160 Finnish citizens. He noted that priority was given to families with children and other vulnerable citizens. After a grueling 12-hour overnight journey, the passengers were understandably exhausted, highlighting the strain they experienced. Tanner reminded everyone that prolonged land transportation, especially with border crossings involved, presents numerous challenges.

Tanner stated, 'Surprises happen, schedules fall through, and everyone is required to exercise a bit of unreasonable patience.' He underscored that, according to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, there have been no significant emergencies involving Finnish citizens due to military actions, indicating that no one has been placed in serious life-threatening situations due to attacks thus far.

The decision for many families to leave was heavily influenced by the distress their children were experiencing. Tanner acknowledged that the need to prioritize children's well-being was a crucial factor in the repatriation process, thus degrading any perceived stress from logistical issues. He expressed the hope that the operation can successfully conclude and that the repatriated citizens can quickly return to their normal lives in Finland.
