Bolivian caught with over 90 kg of coca leaves on bus in the interior of SP
A Bolivian national was detained after police found over 90 kilograms of coca leaves hidden in his luggage during a bus stop in Presidente Prudente, Brazil.
In a recent incident on the Raposo Tavares highway in Presidente Prudente, São Paulo, police apprehended a Bolivian man who was found with more than 90 kilograms of coca leaves. The drugs were discovered during a routine traffic enforcement operation aimed at combating drug trafficking, known as Operation Impacto. The authorities stopped the inter-state bus on Friday evening and became suspicious of the man's behavior, prompting them to search his luggage.
Upon inspection of his four bags, law enforcement officials uncovered a total of 90.9 kilograms of coca leaves concealed within the luggage. The individual, a 29-year-old Bolivian without any prior criminal record, was taken into custody but ultimately released afterwards, as he will be responding to the charges in freedom. The seized coca leaves have been forwarded for forensic analysis as part of the investigation into the matter.
This significant drug interception highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Brazilian law enforcement in addressing drug trafficking, particularly from neighboring countries like Bolivia, known for its coca cultivation. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and proactive measures to combat the narcotics trade, which remains a pressing issue in the region.
