Construction Sites in Schwabing-West: Trams Must Be Detoured
Tram passengers in western Schwabing will face diversions starting from March 9 due to infrastructure upgrades by the Munich City Utilities.
From March 9 until May 31, tram passengers in western Schwabing will experience disruptions as Munich City Utilities (SWM) renew tram switch systems on lines 12, 27, and N27 at the Gleisdreieck near Nordbad. Aside from the switch upgrades, stops at Herzogstraße, Ackermannstraße, and Gartenstraße on tram 27 will be made barrier-free, additional district heating pipelines will be laid in Hohenzollernstraße, and repairs will be made to a crossing at Hohenzollernplatz. During the construction period, the Munich transport company (MVG) will implement detours for some tramlines and substitute buses in affected segments. Specifically, for the next twelve weeks, replacement bus service 12 will run instead of tram 12 between Leonrodplatz and Kurfürstenplatz, while the rerouted tram 27 will operate between Kurfürstenplatz and Schwabing Nord. Transfers between tram and bus will be possible at Leonrodplatz and Kurfürstenplatz. These changes reflect ongoing infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing public transport accessibility and efficiency in the area, which is significant for local residents and commuters. The upgrades not only cater to increased accessibility but also ensure that the public transport system can sustain future demands in the rapidly developing district of Schwabing-West.
