Traffic in Freising: General renovation of Munich Street begins
The city of Freising is embarking on a general renovation of Munich Street and Ottostraße, which will require complete traffic closure in certain sections until April 21.
The city of Freising has initiated the general renovation of Munich Street and Ottostraße, beginning with a significant construction phase that requires the complete closure of the area between Heiliggeistgasse and Bahnhofplatz until April 21. This renovation work, which is a necessary response to discovered structural damages, was approved by the city council last year with a budget of 2.4 million euros. Certain segments of the renovation have already been completed, indicating the project's progression over time.
The decision to renovate stems from a comprehensive assessment conducted between 2020 and 2021, which revealed severe structural damage on this key traffic route. Due to its age and significant traffic load, the current roadway has deteriorated to a point where it poses a safety risk to vehicles and pedestrians alike. As part of the renovation, the existing asphalt will be milled and almost entirely reconstructed to enhance its durability and safety features.
In addition to roadway improvements, the renovation also includes making crosswalks accessible to pedestrians, thereby promoting safety and inclusivity. The construction plan till now highlights the city's commitment to upgrading essential infrastructure while addressing historical safety concerns, demonstrating an investment in the community's transport network and overall public safety.
