Busan City Takes the Lead in the Small Modular Reactor Market... Domestic First Support Center Begins Construction

Busan City has initiated the construction of Korea's first Small Modular Reactor support center to tap into the emerging niche market.

Busan City is stepping into the niche market of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), with the construction ceremony for a support center taking place on the 9th in the Gimhae Hi-Tech Industrial Complex. The support center will cover an area of 4,000 square meters, with a total floor area of 2,308 square meters over two floors, supported by a budget that includes 9.7 billion KRW from the national government and 18.6 billion KRW from Busan's budget. Scheduled for completion in May 2024, the center aims to build twelve key types of equipment by December 2028.
