A joint operation by the National Police and Armed Forces in Quito resulted in one arrest, the destruction of 40 liters of illicit liquor, and the seizure of 120 units of contraband tobacco.

On the night of March 6th to the early morning of March 7th, 2023, a significant operation was carried out by the National Police and Armed Forces in the Quito sectors of Bicentenario, Carapungo, and the city center. The operation targeted ten commercial establishments identified as bars, liquor stores, and nightclubs, resulting in various legal actions against several of them. One individual was arrested while inebriated, and four businesses were sanctioned due to lack of operational permits, while three drinkers were penalized for consuming alcohol in public areas.

In addition to the enforcement actions against establishments, the Metropolitan Transit Agency (AMT) recorded six citations against drivers for legal infractions, which included stopping one vehicle as part of this operation. The authorities emphasized the need for compliance with regulations to ensure public safety and health, particularly concerning the control of illicit substances in the local market.

The Metropolitan Control Agency (AMC) confirmed the destruction of 40 liters of liquor that had no health registration and the removal of 120 units of contraband tobacco from the informal market. This operation reflects ongoing efforts by Ecuadorian authorities to combat illegal alcohol and tobacco trade, underscoring their commitment to enforcing laws aimed at promoting public welfare and reducing illicit activities in urban areas.
