Police arrest three people and seize 1.4 tons of cocaine in Alborada, northern Guayaquil
Ecuadorian police seized 1.4 tons of cocaine in a raid in the northern part of Guayaquil and arrested three suspects connected to the operation.
The National Police of Ecuador conducted a significant drug bust in the La Alborada neighborhood of northern Guayaquil, uncovering a substantial load of cocaine. During a raid on a property identified as a storage center, officers discovered approximately 1,400 packages containing hydrochloride cocaine, with a total weight of 1.4 tons. Interior Minister John Reimberg confirmed via social media that this shipment was intended for distribution across various locations in the country.
The seized cocaine has an estimated street value of $3.2 million, highlighting the scale of the drug trafficking operation uncovered by law enforcement. In relation to the operation, police arrested three individuals, identified as Carlos N. (48), Michael P. (23), and Jorge G. (43). These arrests are part of broader efforts by the Ecuadorian authorities to combat drug trafficking and organized crime, which have increasingly plagued the nation.
As evidence, police also confiscated three mobile phones and cash during the operation, indicating possible links to further criminal activities. This incident underscores the challenges faced by Ecuador in managing drug-related crime, as it remains a significant transit country for narcotics, particularly cocaine, amid ongoing regional drug trafficking issues.
