16 detained, weapons, drugs, and vehicles seized during operation in southern Guayaquil and Durán

A total of 16 people were detained and multiple operations conducted against organized crime in southern Guayaquil and Durán, Ecuador, resulting in various seizures by the police.

In recent operations coordinated by the police in the southern districts of Guayaquil and Durán, a total of 16 individuals have been arrested, alongside the seizure of vehicles, weapons, and drugs. This initiative forms part of the Operational Strategy 3D, designed to target organized crime by utilizing data analysis and advanced technological tools. The districts involved include Sur, Esteros, Portete, and Durán, areas characterized by higher rates of criminal activity.

The operations were strategically planned based on intelligence gathered through innovative methods, including QR codes and police intelligence systems. Commander Walter Fernando Villarroel of Zone 8 emphasized that these targeted interventions allow for more precise action against criminal groups. A total of 27 interventions were reported, consisting of both public area operations and house searches which are critical in disrupting organized crime activities.

The arrested individuals included a foreign national from Venezuela, with five of them having prior criminal records linked to serious offenses such as firearm possession and trafficking. This crackdown exemplifies the Ecuadorian government's commitment to confront organized crime directly and mitigate its impact on public safety, although the persistent issue of crime in these regions necessitates ongoing vigilance and more extensive support measures.
