The automaker has unveiled its new batteries โ Features on par with Donut Lab's sensational battery
BYD has introduced its second-generation Blade battery technology, promising rapid charging times and plans for a megawatt-class charging network that extends to Finland.
Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has officially launched its second-generation Blade battery technology and a new Flash Charging fast charging system. This new technology is designed to significantly reduce charging times, maintaining efficiency even in extreme conditions. The company claims that the new Blade battery can charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes, while reaching 97% takes only nine minutes, which marks a substantial advancement in battery technology.
The announcement positions BYD's charging capabilities in direct competition with the so-called 'sensation battery' from Donut Lab. Critics have previously expressed skepticism about the capabilities of Donut Lab's batteries, with its charge rates being decried as too good to be true. In a series of laboratory tests conducted by VTT, Donut Lab's battery was able to reach 80% charge in just 4.5 minutes and to full capacity slightly over seven minutes, thereby creating a benchmark for rapid charging in the battery technology landscape.
BYD's ambitious plans not only highlight its technological prowess in battery development but also include the establishment of a megawatt-class charging network that aims to extend its reach to Finland. This initiative could potentially reshape the electric vehicle infrastructure in Finland and beyond, providing necessary support for fostering electric vehicle usage and accommodating fast-growing demand in the EV market. The competition between BYD and Donut Lab could lead to further innovations and developments in battery technology that benefit consumers.
